Safe House by Traci Hunter Abramson, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

The guardians, the shadowy heroes of the top-secret program designed to protect members of the most elite government organizations, are being hunted down one by one. There is a single explanation: a traitor must be embedded somewhere in their midst. But if they themselves are the target, who will protect them?

CIA operative Renee Niezen has heard tales of the guardians, though she's never really believed in their existence—until she is approached by Charlotte, an old friend who desperately needs her help to stop the systematic destruction of the guardian program. Renee accepts the plea for assistance, but not everyone is thrilled to have her on the team. Kade—one of the last guardians standing—is unimpressed with Renee's qualifications and turns instead to the legendary Saint Squad for help. But when Renee is caught in the crosshairs, Kade must set aside his antagonism for the woman in order to protect her. Their grudging alliance soon develops into much more—but before the pair can examine their feelings, their investigation takes a dramatic twist. With lives on the line, Renee and Kade must use their spy training at every turn as they draw dangerously close to the shocking truth.

My Review:

Well Abramson certainly did not disappoint me this go around! I love the books she has written about the Saint Squad, and Safe House is no exception. Immediately the reader is drawn into the action and suspense of the story, and it just doesn't let up! I felt myself tensing up, searching for clues within the book that maybe I was missing, and wondering to myself who was behind all of this madness! This book blends my favorite old characters of the Saint Squad with new characters I came to love as much as the old ones. Abramson has an uncanny ability to write intense action/suspense novels that keep me turning pages like a madwoman in order to solve all of the mysteries. If you love a good book with characters that become as real as your own friends, with action and suspense like your favorite movie, then I highly recommend Safe House!

For Love or Honor by Sarah M. Eden, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Summary:

From the moment they met, Marjie’s heart has belonged to handsome Captain Stanley Jonquil, younger brother of the Earl of Lampton. But six long months ago, when Stanley’s sense of honor required that he do as he had sworn and return to the Continent to fight in defense of King and country, neither Stanley nor Marjie could have dreamed what the cost of his service would be. It has been ages since Stanley last wrote, and Marjie and the Jonquil family are plagued by his unknown fate—until the day he unexpectedly reappears. Marjie’s joy, however, is quickly shadowed by confusion—the aloof, battle-worn soldier before her is not the man he once was. In the wake of Stanley’s blatant disinterest in renewing their acquaintance, Marjie’s devastation turns to determination as she vows to help him find peace. But his scars run far deeper than anyone realizes. Despite his feelings for her, Stanley believes Marjie deserves a man whose hands are not stained with the violence of battlefields and whose mind and heart are not haunted by the horrors he has seen. Honor requires Stanley to return once more to the life he has grown to despise, one he knows will destroy him in the end, even as his heart beckons him to stay with Marjie, the only woman he could ever love, and the promise, at last, of redemption.

My Review:

Eden does a superb job in writing a beautiful yet heartbreaking love story. I love the Jonquil brothers, their stories thus far have been ones I have been able to get totally lost in. Stanley's story is no exception. I found myself hurting and broken for Stanley and all he had endured and heartbroken for Marjie and all she had suffered along the way. An aching and beautiful story of a love that seems impossible, a life that seems to have only one direction it can go, For Love or Honor kept me enthralled until the very end. The good, the ugly, the pain and the heartache...all of it laid bare to be seen, I applaud Eden and her ability to wrap the reader up inside a story that it becomes real.

Wish Me Love by Michele Ashman Bell, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Charlotte Wells does not date. After surviving a broken engagement, she’s taken a leave of absence from the social scene. So when her best friend and coworker, Jack, challenges her to get back in the game, she’s not so sure she’s ready to play. But ultimately, curiosity gets the best of her, and Charlotte accepts the daunting challenge: she will attempt to have fifty first dates in her effort to find “the one.” Unfortunately, she quickly realizes that the dating pool mostly holds clown fish as she goes on one lousy outing after another. Without a good man in sight as summer ends, Charlotte cuts her losses and sets her sights on a fun-filled trip to her cousin’s destination wedding in Brazil.
Brazil is a land of beautiful sights and delicious offerings—including Max, the charming brother of her cousin’s new husband. Max has all the makings of a Prince Charming in soccer cleats, and Charlotte’s happily ever after seems to be within reach. But love is a funny thing, and soon Charlotte finds herself wondering: could it be that her true love has been right in front of her all along?

My Review:
I cannot lie, I was super excited when I saw that Michele Ashman Bell had a new release coming out! She has been a favorite author of mine for years and I may or may not have squealed like a schoolgirl at the chance to read and review her newest book! I loved Wish Me Love! Charlotte and Jack were larger than life, fun characters that I wanted to be friends with! I could completely relate to how they turned comments into a chance to break out in song! They were just so much fun! The more I read the more I wished that they could be together instead of just best friends! They supported each other and they just got each other!
When Jack suggested that Charlotte go on fifty first dates I was like WHOA there Nelly! But she was brave and decided to tackle it head on and oh my word, those guys and those dates! I mean, where do these people come from?!? I think the majority of women could relate to Charlotte in that she did not see herself as beautiful or special, yet she was. Sometimes it takes time to realize that we are awesome just the way that we are. I really connected with that part of the book and it is a nod to Bell that she can write a fiction novel that can make you connect and reflect on your own life. You will love this book and wish it would never end!

Mind Games by Stephanie Black, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Psychologist Natalie Marsh’s dream is now reality: her mental health services clinic has opened and is housed in an elegant, newly renovated nineteenth-century building. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with the clinic’s presence, including Heather Osbourne, a troubled young woman who wholly objects to the occupation of the building. Heather has spent years wandering the halls of the abandoned structure, convinced she’s communing with her ancestor’s ghost. When Natalie thwarts Heather’s attempt to leap from a window, the shaken psychologist soon realizes Heather’s failed jump is merely one piece of a disturbing puzzle. Greed and deceit are weaving a web around Natalie, and someone will stop at nothing—not even murder—to get what they want. Stretched to her breaking point, Natalie struggles to learn the truth, but only one thing is clear: nothing is as it seems.

My Review:

I have been a huge Stephanie Black fan for awhile now, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review her newest release, Mind Games! So truth, it took time to get into this book. I usually like my books to take off from the first chapter and keep the pace going so I stay interested. This book took more time than that and time to figure out who was who and what they were doing in the story. Once you get all of that straightened out then you are golden and the pace picks up and keeps you on the edge until the very end! Black has a mind for the suspenseful thrillers so watch yourself and don't read at night! Or alone!

Perfectly You by Robin Daniels

Ivy Nixon is the student body Vice President at Franklin High School. Each year, the school holds a date auction to raise funds for the senior class graduation party, and this year, Ivy’s in charge. Planning the event is a huge task and Ivy is determined to prove she can get the job done right. Unfortunately, she’s still one participant short and her deadline is looming. Andy Walker, her cute but socially reclusive art class table mate, is her last resort. He may not be popular, but he’s funny, talented, and full of surprises. With a makeover and some major social marketing, Ivy is sure he could fetch a decent price at the auction. Andy reluctantly agrees to help, but the more time Ivy spends with him, the more her feelings shift from professional to romantic in nature. To top it off, she’s done her marketing so well, that other girls are starting to notice Andy too. Come auction time, will Ivy be able to let him go to the highest bidder? Or will she find a way to keep him for herself… Content Description: This is a stand-alone YA contemporary romance with companion novels set at the same high school. It contains minor language, innuendo, and crude humor, some steamy kissing, a party scene where underage drinking is taking place, and a brief but tasteful conversation about sex. The author has attempted to write characters who make good choices in questionable situations, in effort to keep the content appropriate for teens. This book contains no sex, written or implied, and no explicit language. Recommended for ages 14 and up

.
 EXCERPT:

"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you." I lunged forward in an exaggerated show of gratitude and threw my arms around his waist, embracing him tightly. He flinched and tensed up for a moment. I'd caught him off guard. Eventually he relaxed and put one arm around me, awkwardly patting my back in some semblance of a hug. For a moment, I forgot what I was doing and leaned into him. Wow, he smelled unbelievably good. Like soap and dryer sheets and something a little sharper that I couldn't identify. I needed to ask him what cologne he wore, because it was incredible. I could smell him all day. Not to mention that his chest was a lot firmer than one would guess, since he hides it under baggy button-down shirts all the time. Andy cleared his throat and I pulled away. He looked embarrassed again. He really needed to get over that, and I was going to help him, starting right now. "Sorry." I grinned. "You smell amazing. Your cologne is yummy enough to eat. I could sit here and sniff you for the rest of the class." He choked on his spit and quickly put his fist over his mouth to stifle his laughter. "Please don't." He was trying to sound horrified, but his face gave him away. He appreciated the compliment. "Ok." I threw my hands up in surrender. "But fair warning...if I'm having a bad day, I may lean over and smell your neck to induce a calming effect. When that happens, don't punch me." Andy shook his head, bewildered by the turn our conversation had taken. "I'll try not to punch you, if you decide to randomly press your face against my neck." "When you say it like that, I sound like a psycho stalker." "Psycho and stalker are your words, not mine. But, if the shoe fits..." He trailed off, and I smacked him on the arm. "Ouch!" Andy rubbed the place I'd just hit. "I'm only kidding. I don't think you're a psycho stalker. I've never seen any indication that you're a stalker. You're more likely a plain old psycho." He was grinning nice and big now, and I couldn't help but grin back.

My Review:

Perfectly You by Daniels is a breath of fresh air for the YA genre! I loved Ivy and her assertive and well meaning helpful ways. And then there was Andy, unassuming, low-key and a down to earth guy! The date auction was such a fun and interesting aspect of the book, I enjoyed Ivy looking for just the right guy and settling on Andy. Watching their friendship grow and develop was natural. I was rooting for them to see that there was more there than friendship! A wonderful and easy, Perfectly You was just the right pick me up from a long work week!

Miss Leslie's Secret by Jennifer Moore, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Decorated war hero Conall Stewart has spent ten years envisioning his return to his beloved Scottish Highlands. But now, with the days of battle finally behind him, it seems that his dreams of home have been in vain: the land of his youth lies in ruins, and his family is gone. Though he will never stop searching for his kin, Conall knows he must begin again. But when he takes on a rented farm in a nearby town, he finds far more than the fresh start he was looking for . . . After catching a mischievous local lad stealing, Conall returns young Jamie to his mother, Aileen Leslie—and finds the woman’s coddling of the child maddening. What Conall does not realize is that Aileen hides a frightening secret: her devoted protection of Jamie is all that shelters them from discovery by a dangerous man from their past. Drawn together by circumstance, Conall soon develops a fatherly relationship with Jamie—as well as romantic feelings for Aileen. But even as the couple accepts their growing affection for one another, time runs out for Aileen and her son: after years of hiding, they have been found. Conall lost his family once—he will do all in his power not to let history repeat itself . . ..

My Review:

So I will openly admit that it personally took me a little longer than normal to get into this story. But once I was in, man, I could not put it down! Conall was such a strong, handsome and just good man. He cared about others and he was a giver by nature. And his Scottish accent could make a girl swoon! Aileen was a proud, stubborn and independent woman, she felt like she didn't need help from anyone at all! The two of them together were quite the pair and I wondered if they would ever see eye-to-eye. Aileen's son Jamie, stole a piece of my heart, and his character showed how children are good and aim to please. The climax of the story happened late, but it was action-packed and heart wrenching! It kept me up late because I had to finish it and find out if Conall would be able to save his new found family! Overall, a wonderful read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a sweet Scottish romance!

Double Eagle Double Cross by M.R. Durbin, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

After an unexpectedly thrilling summer with his grandfather, Oregon State student Charley Sawyer is ready to catch his breath at his late parents' Oregon beach home. Hoping for some rest and relaxation, Charley is met instead by devastation: the house has been ransacked. In his inventory of the damage, Charley stumbles across the item the trespasser must have been after, the only thing that seems out of place: a mysterious key. And when he learns what it unlocks, Charley is drawn into yet another adventure with a ragtag group more than willing to help.

Mac Bowman, the brainy and beautiful anthropology student who joined Charley in his summer escapade, is thrilled when she is presented with the opportunity to conduct research in Oregon. Maybe a little time together will allow the pair to explore their feelings for one another. But when she arrives, she is disturbed by what she finds: Charley has disappeared without a trace.
As Charley and Mac each work to unravel their mysteries, their searches collide dramatically. Only one thing is clear: the moment he found the key, Charley unwittingly opened the door to a long-held secret—one that could cost him his life. . . .

My Review:

So the book starts out with some serious action but it kind of jumps around a lot. It was pretty hard for me to follow the first few chapters while I tried to get a grasp on who was now talking and who they were and how they factored into the story. Honestly it was pretty confusing for me as a reader. Perhaps if there had been some sort of heading at the beginning of each chapter letting the reader know who was speaking, it may have made more sense to me and been easier for me to delve into the story. If you can get past those first few chapters then you will enjoy this mystery novel full of secrets!

Reluctant Reunion by Ruth J. Hartman, Book Review

Book Summary:

Kennedy Cooper tries everything to stay away from her father’s alpaca farm. Being an actress in New York seems to do the trick. Until it doesn’t. When she fails to get enough acting parts, loses her part-time job, and breaks up with her boyfriend, she has no choice but to return. Seeing her father again is tough, but having to meet his new love interest reminds Kennedy why she’d vowed never to go home.

My Review:

I really enjoyed Kennedy's story! It was nice to see her go from the busy city of New York back to her roots on her father's alpaca farm. What a stark contrast and two very different lives! I really felt like the book came full circle and I love stories like that! This short book really brought a lot of emotion and reflection on what is most important in life. Since I like to read clean/sweet romance, I need to mention there is a short open door sex scene.

The Secret of the India Orchid by Nancy Campbell Allen, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Anthony Blake is in love with his best friend's sister, Sophia Elliot. But his plans to court her are put on hold when he is forced to resume his role as an undercover spy for the Crown. A secret document listing the names of the entire network of British spies-including his own-has been stolen. To protect Sophia, Anthony cuts off all ties to her and exchanges his life as an honorable earl for the fa├žade of a flirtatious playboy.

Heartbroken and confused, Sophia travels to India, hoping to find healing in one of the most exotic regions of the British Empire. But the exotic land isn't as restful as she had hoped. Instead, she finds herself embroiled in a mystery of a missing sea captain, a possible murder, and a plot that could involve the prince of India. And when Anthony appears at the British Residency, asking questions and keeping his distance from her, she is stunned.

She still loves him, and, in her heart, she knows he loves her too. But how can she rebuild her relationship with him if he won't confide in her? Does she dare offer her heart to him a second time, or will their love be lost under the India sun?

My Review:

Well it took me a few pages to get into this novel, but once I was in, I did not want to stop reading it. I loved Sophia, she was strong and unafraid of challenges thrown her way. She was not going to sit by and let life pass her by. Anthony kind of drove me crazy! Doing the right thing by breaking things off with her to protect her, but then he cannot keep his love for her from his actions! What kind of spy was he? Good thing no one he was spying on seemed to notice! Anyhow, I really enjoyed the mystery that surrounded them in India, I kept trying to figure out who was behind it all and I honestly didn't see it coming until the very end. This was a great romantic mystery that will keep you reading until the very end!

New Release!!! A Hoyden and an Heiress by Kristin Vayden & Giveaway!

Roberta Lamont had one chance…
London was dull.
All the adventurous romances were snatched up by her sisters.
And she was quite certain she was going to die alone if this didn’t work out.

But as fate would have it, she was stuck with the most tedious and irritatingly silent spy in all of London.
Mr. Henry Willox may be handsome.
He may have a steely gaze that saw right through her.
But he was utterly determined that she was going to have even less of an adventure at GreenFord Waters, than in London.
Pity that.
She’d just have to change his mind.
And in the process, she might succeed at changing his heart as well.

What Mr. Henry Willox expected was a simpering, biddable debutante.
What he experienced, however, was the whirlwind that was Miss Roberta Lamont.
Hoyden, heiress and general menace to society.
Not to mention, his heart.
It shouldn’t have surprised him when she held him at knife-point.
After all, her two brothers-in-law were notorious spies.
Yet at every turn she consistently shocked him, accosted him, or drove him mad with that alluring and innocent grin.
But there’s someone leaking information to the French, and he is charged with finding out whom.
And if he thought it was difficult before with only Miss Lamont to contend with, when Lady Southridge shows up, he’s utterly out numbered.
And he finds he rather likes the odds stacked against him.
He’s never backed down from a challenge.
Because what Miss Lamont doesn’t quite understand, is that she’s met her match.
In more ways than one.

“I’m quite certain I can have approval by tonight.”
“You’re far too forthright for your own good, so I’ll not meet with you this evening. How about as you take your… morning ride?” A grin tipped his lips, and Berty felt herself smile in response, even as her irritation rose at his words.
“What do you mean I’m too forthright?”
Mr. Willox nodded to the door behind her. “You’re in a room with an unmarried gentleman with the door closed. Quite compromising, Miss Lamont.
“I’m quite certain I’m more than safe.” She sighed, beleaguered.
“It’s still a considerable risk, Miss Lamont. One person peeking in, and you’re stuck with me for the rest of your life.” He shrugged.
“Rather, you’re stuck with me.” She smiled sweetly in return. “But that wasn’t the danger I was referring to. I’m quite aware of the social conventions. I’m referring to the fact that of all men I’ve been acquainted with, you’re the least likely to be forward or act in a manor that’s even minimally flirtatious.”
“Is that so?” Mr. Willox crossed his arms, his grin melting into more of a daring expression.
“Yes,” Berty replied directly, not concerned in the slightest, yet in the back of her mind, she remembered Lady Southridge’s words…
And wondered.
And when he took a step forward, rather than taking a step back, she held fast.
When he tipped her chin upward, rather than jerk away, she met his gaze with a challenging one of her own.
Certainly, when he lowered his head, she should have never leaned in.
Or closed her eyes.
Or breathed in his sigh just before his lips reached hers.
But if love was adventure, certainly that meant one needed to take a few risks.
And as his lips caressed her own, she fleetingly thought that it was a worthwhile risk indeed.

Wow, Kristin Vayden knows how to write a regency that pulls you in and doesn't let you go! I remembered Berty from What the Dukes Wants and I was very interested to see what would happen in this book! (You do not need to have read the prior books to read this story, it can be read as a standalone, I have not read all previous books in the series.) Berty is a woman who knows what she wants and when she wants it. She is full of fire and life! She is unique and looking for her true love story. The question is, will she ever find it? Enter Mr. Willox, the spy who seems nothing like her type at all. But is he? The mystery of who is leaking the secrets and the quickly developing romance between Berty and Mr. Willox made for a fast and easy read. I was sad because it all seemed too quick to me. Maybe that is just me wanting more of the story! For those who want full disclosure there is some mild language and one open door intimate scene.

Havencross by Julie Daines, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

When a shocking scandal involving her father spreads through London society, Elaine Cardinham and her parents are forced to retreat to their country home in Cornwall for refuge. But Havencross is no sanctuary for Elaine. She is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of her brother—and the heartbreak she left in her wake all those years ago. It has been five long years since Gareth Kemp last saw Elaine—when she rejected his marriage proposal. Her reappearance convinces him of one thing: he has never stopped loving her. To put his feelings for her aside, he focuses his attention on the dangerous smuggling plaguing the Cornish coast. As Elaine attempts to run from her past, she ventures ever closer to a dangerous truth—and Gareth may be the only one who can save her from a deadly finish.

My Review:

I completely fell into Elaine Cardinham's world and did not want to resurface! Torn from her London home to flee back to the Cornish coast and all she had tried so hard to forget, Elaine had to face challenge after challenge. I wasn't quite sure how it would all turn out for her and who was behind all of the smuggling problems.  Daines kept me engaged and wanting more as I watched Elaine try to reconcile her past with her future. If you want a fast paced novel full of emotions, romance and danger then Havencross is definitely the book for you!
