A Familiar Fear by Kathi Oram Peterson, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Ex-FBI agent Riley Scott lives each day with the scars of her former career. After the murder of her husband and the recent attempt on her own life by the Russian mafia, her heart is irrevocably broken. Agate Island seems like the perfect place to begin building a new future for herself and her teenage son, yet even before the ferry docks at their new home, Riley realizes there will be no escape for her. There, on the boat, is mafia boss Maksimillian Petruso—the man who took everything from her. The man she killed.

Matthew Taggart knows who Riley is and understands her reaction to his resemblance to Maksimillian Petruso. But Matthew is nothing like his estranged criminal father. So far, he has been able to hide from that evil world. However, he's afraid Riley's appearance on the island may lead his family's mafia connections to his doorstep. After all, she is the agent who took down his father.

Matthew needs to leave town. Fast. Unfortunately, when the family wants to find him, there is nowhere he can hide. Now he and Riley are thrown together in a dangerous connection, and learning to trust each other is their only hope of survival.

My Review:

Peterson grabbed my attention and held it until the very last word was read. I felt like I was there with Riley, feeling her earth shattering fear when she thought she saw the man who had killed her husband. Every single time I thought I had this story figured out, Peterson threw me another curve ball! I kept thinking, I've got this, and how wrong I was. I was kept on pins and needles as the tension grew, stakes were raised and time was running out! If you love action suspense novels with a hint of romance then you must read A Familiar Fear! It will not just hit every mark, but surpass it!

A Tangled Inheritance by Chalon Linton, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Nora Ellsworth, darling of London society, has her choice of eligible suitors, but since childhood, she has been expected to marry Jonathan Browning, a gentleman whose wealth and stability will someday secure the futures of Nora and her mother and sister. The family estate will pass to an odious male cousin upon the death of Nora’s father, and when he suddenly takes ill, her need to marry well becomes vitally important.

As Nora struggles with the idea of marrying without love, she finds herself increasingly drawn to Devlin Fausett, a man with dark eyes and intriguing conversation. But Devlin’s reputation as an indebted gambler is difficult to ignore. Despite the rumors from the ton and the marriage decision before her, Nora is determined to befriend the dashing Mr. Fausett, and his charms soon make it all but impossible to remember her duty. Until she learns the truth of her fortune. There is a way to keep her family’s estate, but the price is high: Nora must wed, as soon as possible. Torn between two very different men, she must make the ultimate decision. Will she be guided by her head or her heart?

My Review:

I love a good regency novel and this one did not disappoint! Nora was a delight and a breath of fresh air! I loved her desire to truly connect with someone and find love for her marriage. Her loyalty to her family was important as well but she really wanted to find love and fulfill her family duty. I could feel her turmoil and unsurety as she struggled with her head and her heart. Devlin on the other hand, he was a hot mess! He wanted to reform himself but man he just could not seem to stay away from his vice! I wondered if he could ever be reformed! And then there was this whole mystery element to the story from Nora's sister to her father, I wanted to know what the heck was going on? And the crazy creepy cousin, his character was brilliantly done! Seriously there was so much going on there was never a dull moment but it was never too much that I couldn't keep up! This book is definitely a keeper and I would recommend it to my friends!

Love's Treasure by Rosemary Danielis, Book Review

Book Summary:

Can the truth mend a broken heart?

Darcy McGee never wants to see his girlfriend, Treasure, again. She skipped town without a word, leaving him with a broken heart and enough pain to fill a book with his poems. Four years later, he’s a new man. He’s got a rock-hard body, a hot girlfriend, an exciting job and walls around his heart no one can get past.

Treasure Mercado had no intention of returning to Heartland Cove, not after what she did to her boyfriend, Darcy. When a run-in with mobsters sends her fleeing home, he’s the only person she can turn to. Too bad his love for her has turned into smoldering hatred while her feelings for him are strong as ever. Will the truth about why she left be enough to mend Darcy’s broken heart and convince him to help save her life?

My Review:

This book was just easy. Easy to read, easy to get into, easy to stay inside Heartland's Cove. It was also unexpected. Treasure was the most unusual main character I have read about in a long time and I enjoyed learning all aspects of her personality! She was tough as steel yet she had this fierce love and loyalty. Darcy was so confusing...just like a man! Honestly this book took me places I never saw it going and I enjoyed every second; I finished it in a day. If you want an easy-to-read, treasure hunting novel with some action too, then this is the book for you!

Starstruck by Sariah Wilson, Blog Tour & Giveaway!!!

  #Starstruck by Sariah Wilson

“You’ve done better.” With one uncharacteristically sassy tweet to her longtime celebrity crush, Zoe Miller’s life turns upside down. Ultrahot A-lister Chase Covington doesn’t just respond to Zoe’s tweet, he does the unthinkable: he messages Zoe directly. Now she must decide between walking away or meeting her crush in person. Chase knows better than to trust anyone from the Internet, but Zoe’s saucy challenge has totally caught his interest—and her girl-next-door personality is keeping it. He’s been burned enough to know he needs to keep his heart close. But his feelings for Zoe might be a lot more than just an online flirtation. He just has to convince her… When the press gets wind of Zoe and Chase’s secret relationship, their romance turns into tabloid headlines. Will they be able to hold on to their Hollywood love story?

  Excerpt

“My mom is home. You have to go. Right now.” While my mother had matured over the last eleven years since she’d married Duncan, I didn’t want her to meet Chase and get all fangirl and weird and talking about her own brush with fame. It was humiliating enough in school; the last thing I wanted was for him to find out. But he wasn’t budging. I pushed against him again, and it was like trying to move a brick wall. A hot, muscular, well-defined brick wall, but still. “I’m serious. You have to go.” “Are you embarrassed by me?” he asked in a voice that was both bewildered and amused. But at least he finally took a step back. I grabbed him by the wrist, dragging him into the living room. I grabbed his jacket off of the couch and started shoving him toward my mom’s bedroom in the very back of the house. “That’s not it. It’s…difficult to explain.” “Aren’t you a little old to be in trouble for having a boy over while you’re babysitting?” “You just need to leave.” I opened one of the windows and pulled out the screen, dropping it on the ground. I’d put it back later. I indicated that he should use the exit I’d just provided. “Do you seriously want me to climb out a window?” I heard the door from the garage to the kitchen open and then shut. My mom called out, “Zoe?” Frantic, I started pushing him, trying to force him out. He laughed quietly but did give in. “I’m going, I’m going. But you have a lot of explaining to do.” “Whatever,” I said. He sat down on the windowsill, hanging one leg over the ledge. His attention was drawn to the massive poster that hung over my mother’s bed. It hadn’t even occurred to me to try and block his view or take it down. “Is that your mom?” That stupid picture had made my life miserable for years. I would have kept it from him if I could. My mother called my name again. It sounded like she was coming down the hallway. I was about ready to throw all my weight against him. “Yes, it’s my mom. Now go!” Laughing, he swung both legs through the open window and jumped the three feet to the ground, landing easily. Then he made a dramatic, Shakespearean-type bow. “’Til next we meet, my lady.”

My Review:

This is absolutely the best book I have read in a very long time...hands down! I loved it so much that I could not put it down! I am calling this the must read book of 2018! If you love romance, this is the book for you! There is sizzling smoking hot chemistry that gives you all the feels but doesn't go too far so you could comfortably let your teenager read it. Chase Covington is every girl's dream guy...super hot, super sweet and down to earth; plus he is a celebrity so hello> Zoe is just the girl next door who happens to tweet her celebrity crush Chase Covington...and he tweets her back! How awesome is that? Except that Zoe isn't even sure it is really him...it is probably just his assistant...right? This book has it all from start to finish! It literally drags you in and doesn't let you go until you have read the last word and still wish there was more! This world Wilson has created I never wanted to leave! I cannot wait for more from her and I am pretty sure I am now her #1 superfan! Read this book! Just go and do it, you will be so glad you did! Just prepare yourself with a comfortable spot and a lot of time without interruptions!

Six Days to Live by Kenneth Page, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Sometimes disaster is simply a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Take Addison Roberts, for example: it is a deadly coincidence that in a crowded parking lot one day, she catches the eye of a dangerous criminal on the run. In his desperation to evade the police, what he needs is a way out—and Addison and her car are his ticket to escape.

Lieutenant Chase Roberts, on leave from his military assignment, is anxious to be reunited with his wife. Yet as night falls and Addison fails to appear, Chase feels a rising sense of foreboding. Hours quickly become days as he desperately works with authorities to find the woman he loves. But after being named a person of interest, Chase is warned away from the investigation—a mandate he ignores. Chase will stop at nothing to find his wife, and what he ultimately discovers is terrifying: Addison has been carjacked by a man who has killed before and has no scruples about killing again . . .

My Review:

This action/suspense novel had a plot that truly captured my attention and held it throughout the book. I honestly had a hard time putting it down. The entire book is tense and suspenseful and I never could anticipate what would happen or who would end up doing what, which I truly enjoyed. I never like being able to figure out every move that will be made, I like being surprised. My one and only complaint is that some of the dialogue felt forced to me, in a way that it didn't feel realistic; it was too contrived. I wanted it to be natural and flowing. Other than that, the story was griping and had me on the edge of my seat. This is a  great action and suspense novel!

Heart of the West by Carolyn Twede Frank, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Independent-minded women are considered highly unsuitable in Kate Donahue’s wealthy Long Island society. Yes, Kate would lead a proper life should she marry, but her dream of practicing medicine would surely be thwarted by her domineering fiancé. To follow her dream, she must take dramatic measures. So when she reads a newspaper ad seeking a qualified small-town physician, Kate embarks on a new life in the Wild West.

Upon her arrival in the rugged settlement of Craig, Colorado, Kate is disappointed to discover that even in the West, no one wants a woman doctor. As she struggles to establish her practice, she is kept busy fending off the unwanted attentions of a local rancher, a man unnervingly reminiscent of the ex-fiancé she left behind in New York. Romantic entanglements are the last thing on Kate’s mind. That is, until she meets Lucas McCurdy, an Irish immigrant with whom she feels an undeniable connection. But when their relationship inflames a dangerous land battle, Kate and Lucas find themselves defenseless in a lawless town—a perilous position that may cost them everything.

My Review:

Heart of the West is a breath of fresh country air! I loved this story so much; it just sucked me in and never let me go. I found myself completely intrigued by Kate. She was this head-strong forward thinking woman for her time and a doctor as well. She was brave, bold and daring; all of the things a woman would like to be! I just could not imagine uprooting yourself from everything you have ever known and starting out in a new and rural place, completely and utterly alone. This is a wild western romance like no other and I found myself hooked until the very last page was read! I highly recommend this sweet western romance!

The Fisherman's Daughter by Melinda Sue Sanchez, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Eighteen-year-old Marianna De'Angelis has grown up on her father's fishing boat off the picturesque coast of Sicily, Italy. She traverses the nearby countryside on horseback and bicycle and works alongside her mother selling fish at market. It is a simple, happy life. But when WWII erupts and the Nazis overtake the country, Marianna's peaceful world is shattered.
In the midst of chaos, Marianna encounters a handsome, young Italian soldier named Massimo Scalvone. Though she tries to keep her distance, Marianna finds herself powerfully drawn to Massimo. Yet all the while, the man she is growing to love conceals a deadly secret—a secret that ensures that in a world now ruled by politics and greed, Massimo is not free to give his heart. Devastated, Marianna immerses herself in helping her family and neighbors survive the war. But soon, merely helping is not enough, and the young woman undertakes increasingly dangerous missions for the resistance. Although Marianna and Massimo each harbor secrets, their only hope of survival is to trust each other with the truth of who they really are.

My Review:

Okay let's be honest shall we? This book is slow paced, super slow paced. It is a good book but I continually found myself putting it down and being distracted by other more exciting things. While I enjoyed the sparks between Marianna and Massimo, once again it was just too slow moving for me personally. The time era the book is set in is World War II and there is a lot of suffering and sadness surrounding the time and described in the book itself; some may find that hard to read. This is definitely not your light and fluffy type romance. It is deeper and full of hardship.

My Review:

This is a stellar companion book to Trouble in Loveland!  All of my favorite characters (and not so favorite characters) are there and there is all kinds of chaos and family feuds going on! It is family drama times one hundred with crazy secrets and I loved it! Poor Charlee was dealt a hot mess and she played her hand beautifully! If you loved Trouble in Loveland then you absolutely HAVE to read, More Trouble in Loveland!

Trouble in Loveland by Jennifer Peel, Book Review

Book Summary:

Charlee Jensen had what she considered the idyllic childhood growing up in a town named for that most prized emotion of all, Loveland, Colorado. At seventeen, her teenage crush, a man eight years older than her, marries and she naively thinks this is the worst thing that would ever happen to her. Then her parents divorce and her world crumbles. She finds herself being whisked away from her beloved home and estranged from her father.

Now eight years later, with two degrees that she never wanted in hand, and no job prospects, her father offers her a position with his CPA firm. With no other options available, Charlee accepts his offer and returns to the hometown she loved. While rebuilding her relationship with her father, she discovers that perhaps a romantic relationship is in the cards for her, with her old teenage crush, Ryan Carter, who just happens to still live next door and is now a partner in her father’s CPA firm.

Newly divorced and single dad, Ryan Carter, isn’t quite sure what to make of the girl next door, who’s all woman now. He finds himself having a hard time resisting this beautiful yet annoyingly charming woman, but their age difference and his complicated relationship with his ex-wife cause quite a bit of trouble for the couple. Ryan finds himself torn between keeping the peace with his ex-wife and mother of his child and his feelings for Charlee.

Can they successfully overcome their troubles in Loveland? Find out in this clean romance filled with sparks, humor, and of course, a little bit of trouble.

My Review:

Okay, let's just say that it has been a long time since a book has just stolen my complete attention and held it captive for the entire book. Trouble in Loveland did just that! I was sucked into Charlee's world and I could not escape and I didn't want to escape either! Peel has a way of writing that is real, down to earth, and resonates with the reader. Charlee could be your own neighbor or friend. Peel also does a fantastic job of writing sizzling romance with all the sparks while still keeping it clean! I was so engrossed in this story that when it was finished I was totally distraught. But then I realized there was a second book and I started reading that the same night! Yup, her story telling is that good! I cannot wait to read more from Jennifer Peel!!!

Especially when Lucas keeps reminding him that all is fair in love and war.

Book Excerpt:

“So, your birthday is coming up soon. The big 1-6. We need to do something epic. I’m thinking a huge party…” I trailed off, knowing she’d shoot me down. There’s only one thing she’s ever wanted to do for her sixteenth birthday. That was to go on her first date.
Summer’s parents only had one formal rule—that I knew of, at least. No dating until you’re sixteen. I was surprised the first time I heard it, because her parents never seemed to care that I was always in her bedroom. I mean, we didn’t shut the door or do anything dodgy, but still. Hunter broke that rule all the time, but Summer had stayed obedient. She’d yet to go on an official date. I think the reason she didn’t push it the way Hunter did was because she was scared and a little naïve. But, regardless of the reason, the waiting had built up a lot of anticipation for her sixteenth birthday.
“You know me better than that by now.” Summer smiled. “I don’t want a party.”
I winked at her. “I know you don’t. The real question is, who do you want to take you on your very first date?” I tried to play it off like I didn’t care, but I already knew the answer. “Let me guess, you want me to pull some strings so my dopey older brother will ask you out?”
“Don’t be ridiculous, that’s never going to happen.” She waved me off, then got quiet, like she was nervous. Summer looked down at the stuffed animal she was holding. “Actually, I was hoping you’d take me on my first date.”
“Me?” I was beyond surprised.
Summer grinned and said, “Yes, you. Who else would I want to take me?”
Something exploded in my chest, and my body got warm and tingly. I’d been out on plenty of dates, kissed my share of girls, too. But the thought of doing either of those things with Summer made my emotions do a happy dance. She wanted me to take her on her first date. Maybe by default because she didn’t think Lucas was an option, but I’d take it. This would be the perfect opportunity to show her why Lucas sucked and I should be the man of her dreams.
“I’d be honored,” I replied coolly, trying to hide how giddy I was. I didn’t want to look like a desperate chump. “Do you have anything specific that you want to do?”
“Nope. I trust you to make it amazing and unforgettable.”
“Geez, no pressure or anything.”
Summer laughed. “Of course not. No pressure at all. I’ve only got a full page reserved for the event in my scrapbook.”
“Do you really?”
“What do you think?” she countered, but I couldn’t tell if she was being serious or not. Forget one page. Honestly, I could see her making a whole “first date scrapbook”.
“I’m invoking my right to plead the Fifth Amendment on this matter.”
“I think you’re smarter than Lucas gives you credit for,” she replied.

The Gentleman's Deception by Karen Tuft, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Renowned actress Ruby Chadwick, The Darling of Drury Lane, has long planned and prepared for her final performance. With exceptional beauty comes the unwanted attention of men, and after years of fending off odious suitors, Ruby is ready to leave it all behind in favor of a quiet life. The first step is to reclaim a piece of her past: her true identity as Lavinia Fernley. But leaving town unnoticed proves impossible, and in one desperate moment, she embarks on the greatest act of her life when she throws herself into the arms of a stranger to avoid recognition.

Lucas Jennings is shocked to find the stunning redhead in his arms, but something moves him to play along with her ruse when she calls him her husband. This charade marks the start of an unpredictable journey as he escorts the lovely Lavinia and her traveling companions to Primrose Farm, far from the glaring lights of London. Soon, the tables are turned when Lucas introduces Lavinia to his family—as his fiancée. Before long, their mutual deception begins to feel all too real. But when the truth of her past is revealed, will Lavinia’s dream of a happy ending slip through her fingers?

My Review:

How do I love this book? Let me count the ways! Ruby Chadwick is an amazing and highly sought after actress and her character in the book is bold and brave, and makes you want to get to know her better. Then we have the dashing and handsome Lucas Jennings, he is so loyal and honorable, who wouldn't swoon just at the sight of him? *sigh* The pace of the story is perfect, not too fast and not too slow. I found myself thinking about the story when I was working and couldn't pick it up to read it! Honestly this is one of the most unique storylines I have read for a regency novel, I truly enjoyed every step of the journey!

Christmas Secrets by Donna Hatch, Book Review

Book Summary:

Holly has two Christmas wishes this year; finally earn her mother's approval by gaining the notice of a handsome earl with an impeccable reputation, and learn the identity of the stranger who gave her a heart-shattering kiss...even if that stranger is the resident Christmas ghost.

My Review:

This Christmas regency novel will pull you in and keep you reading until the very last page! I found myself not wanting to stop reading! Immediately Hatch had my interest with the "ghost" encounter! Holly and Mr. Berry were characters that became friends and I was rooting for them both (well Mr. Berry had to earn it, he was a little rakish at first!). Holly became like a sister to me, I wanted her to stand up to her mother and be firm and strong! Hatch has a way of writing a story you get lost in and never want to find your way out! I love this sweet Christmas romance and you will too! It is just the perfect read for a cold winter's night and this Christmas season!

Jarem becomes the healer's apprentice, and soon Chemish finds his soul stirred by the Christian faith of his student. But even as the bond between the two unlikely friends grows, the hatred of the Lamanites spreads. It is no longer enough for them to own the Nephites—they want to exterminate every one of them, and even personal slaves are no longer safe. Now, Jarem's only hope of survival is a dangerous escape that will take him through the heart of Lamanite land . . .

My Review:

This book really grabbed me from the beginning, right off it was tense and suspenseful. Luke does an amazing job of grabbing the reader's attention and keeping it. It is rare that a story grabs you and just keeps you reading, but this one really does it. I felt like I was there with Jarem and Chemish. I really felt Jarem's pain and anguish, his conflicting feelings towards the man who saved him yet was still a part of the people who killed his family and destroyed his home. Any fan of Book of Mormon fiction will enjoy this book!

And to add to the shocking blow, this devastating news is delivered by the last woman Tristan ever hoped to see again.

Olivia Halstead lost everything after the death of her father but found refuge with her cousin Muriel while Muriel’s husband was at war. Now, with the loss of her cousin, Olivia feels she has trespassed too long on the hospitality of the family. But before she can depart, Muriel’s husband returns, and Olivia’s own thorny history with the man comes rushing in: years ago, theirs was a tender courtship—followed too soon by a bitter parting of ways.

Now two people divided by past betrayal find an unforeseen chance for reconciliation. But when Tristan and Olivia find themselves on opposite sides of a revolution, will their clashing allegiances tear them apart forever?

My Review:

I have been a longtime fan of Stansfield and her writing, I have been a reader of her for years. I was very excited to read this new regency release from her and dove in head first. I wanted so badly to love this book like I have loved her others. I have to be straight forward though, this book was hard for me to get through.  It just didn't grab me and keep me inside the story. Maybe I just had a bad story reading day, who knows? I remain a fan of Stansfield and her work, this was just not my favorite from her.

The Darkest Summer by Rebecca J. Greenwood, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Lady Cora Winfield's life has always gone according to plan--her mother's plan. That's why Cora is so fascinated when she meets the dark Duke of Blackdale. Knowing his dangerous reputation, Cora's mother flatly forbids the match, and the duke decides to take matters into his own hands. Kidnapped and facing a scandal, Lady Cora must now decide whether love will be her downfall or the beginning of a new plan, one she never dreamed possible.

Set in the stormy summer of 1816, this Regency romance is a retelling of the myth of Hades and Persephone.

My Review:

Well this is no ordinary regency novel! Don't be put off by the title, I first thought that maybe this would be a dark story, but the title really alludes to the unusual weather in England during the book. Lady Cora is a completely unique character who loves all things plants and gardens. She doesn't really care for balls and parties but her mother makes her attend. She would rather be out tending to her flowers than entertaining an entourage of suitors! And the dark Duke is a quiet and brooding man. He has seen the horrors of war and he usually avoids the social scene...until he sees Lady Cora! And he knows he must meet her! From there the story simply flies on wings...I could not read quickly enough! I was rooting for the Duke and Cora to fall madly in love and marry! But love is never quite that simple! The journey that Greenwood takes you on is like no other I have read before. I kept thinking that no one could encounter so many obstacles and that the carriage ride would never end. Really, would it ever end? This is a great clean regency romance novel with twists and turns that any reader will enjoy!

For Castle and Crown by Sian Ann Bessey, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

After years spent fighting alongside King Richard in the crusades, Lord Edmund of Hawksford is finally returning to his ancestral home. But far from a joyful reunion, what awaits him is devastation. His elder brother is dead, killed in a tragic fire at Hawksford Castle—and the title of duke now falls to Edmund.

When he strives to rebuild the fire-scarred castle, Edmund learns that his was not the only life the fire shattered: his childhood friend Lady Phillipa survived the flames that took Edmund’s brother, but badly burned, she has hidden herself away from those she loves. Yet as the pair renews their acquaintance, they find that their affection runs deep—perhaps even deeper than they’d ever realized.

As Edmund and Pippa begin to question whether the fire was truly an accident, they must discover the truth of the past before they can plan for their future. While coming perilously close to the answers they seek, Edmund and Pippa find themselves at the mercy of a dangerous foe who will stop at nothing to lay claim on Hawksford—and he will destroy any who stand in his way.

My Review:

This is going down in history as one of my all time favorite medieval romances!  There was something magnetic about this story, it slowly but steadily pulled me in until I could not find my way out again. I was wrapped up inside of Lord Edmund and Lady Phillipa (Pippa's) world. I loved the history that was a part of the story as well as the rich culture and countryside that I got to experience alongside Edmund and Pippa. There was mystery, romance, an evil villain that needed to be found out and stopped. Whispered rumors and threats, uprisings and a romance that may not be possible...just all of the things that made for a fantastic story! I loved this book and I hope to read many more from Bessey!

Lies Jane Austen Told Me by Julie Wright, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Ever since Emma read Pride and Prejudice, she's been in love with Mr. Darcy and has regarded Jane Austen as the expert on all things romantic. So naturally when Emma falls for Blake Hampton and he invites her home to meet his parents, she is positive an engagement is in her future. After all, Blake is a single man in possession of a good fortune, and thus must be in want of a wife.

But when it turns out that what Blake actually wants is more of a hook-up than a honeymoon, Emma is hurt, betrayed, and furious. She throws herself deeper into her work as CMO of Kinetics, the fastest growing gym franchise in the nation. She loves her work, and she's good at it, which is why she bristles when her boss brings in a consultant to help her spearhead the new facilities on the East Coast. Her frustration turns to shock when that consultant turns out to be Blake's younger brother, Lucas.

Emma is determined not to fall for Lucas, but as she gets to know him, she realizes that Lucas is nothing like his brother. He is kind and attentive and spends his time and money caring for the less fortunate.

What she can't understand is why Lucas continues to try to push her back into Blake's arms when he so clearly has fallen as hard for her as she has fallen for him. It isn't until Lucas reveals to Emma that he was adopted into the Hampton family that she begins to understand his loyalty to Blake as well as his devotion to the child April-she is Lucas's biological niece.

Emma opens up to Lucas about the feelings of abandonment she has harbored ever since she was a child and her mother left the family. As she helps Lucas deal with his past demons, she is able to exorcise some of her own.

Realizing that her love life is as complicated as anything Jane Austen could have dreamed up, Emma must find a way to let Blake know that it's time for him to let her go and to let Lucas know it's time for him to love her back.

My Review:

I LOVE all things Austen, so I was beyond excited to get my hands on a copy of this book! I had no idea what to expect, I mean, the title alone could send an Austen fan into a fit of vapors! However, Wright was definitely up to tackling Austen, because this contemporary novel was amazing! Emma was a complete Austenesque character from her name right on down to her love life. And the Hampton brothers!  Both were successful and handsome but come on folks, no one could hold a candle to Lucas in my mind! This twisted love story is delightful and I found myself wishing for more time so I could just sit and read it to the very end! From Emma's best friend Silvia, to dreamy hot Lucas and even his mom Caroline, and cute little April...each and every character played an important part in this wonderful book! I believe any fan of Austen's will be a sure fan of Lies Jane Austen Told Me!

Exclusive Excerpt

This scene takes place when everyone on Christmas Day takes a turn kissing their spouse or sweetheart underneath the mistletoe ball. Now the group turn to Will and Holly, who have only known each other a few days, and start goading them into sharing a mistletoe kiss... “Come now, don’t be shy,” her sister called. “It’s tradition.” The others called out encouragements. Apology edged into Will’s uncertain expression. “Do you mind?” Holly’s palms grew sweaty inside her gloves, and her smile probably came out wobbly. “Who are we to go against tradition?” Did she sound desperate in her desire to kiss him? Will held out a hand. She placed hers in it and walked at his side to the kissing ball. They stood, hand in hand, facing each other. His neck cloth shifted as he swallowed. He leaned in. Her heart stumbled and her knees shook. She closed her eyes. Aching, she lifted her face. His cinnamon-spiced breath warmed her mouth. He kissed her cheek. Stunned, she opened her eyes. The watching guests groaned and some chuckled. “No, no, that won’t do at all,” Joseph’s voice rang out. “Give her a proper kiss.” Will froze. That intensity she occasionally saw in him returned. “Holly.” He swallowed again but instead of nervousness, a hunger that sent a flurry of shivers through her overtook his expression. “May I?” She nodded. It didn’t matter if he saw how much she wanted this, wanted him. Let him know. Let the whole world know. He touched her chin, lifted it, and leaned in. Again, she closed her eyes. This time his lips touched hers, pliant and unbelievably gentle. Heat exploded at the contact and shot through her all the way down to her tingling toes. Different from her mystery kiss, this one sang of affection and respect and a deep longing to be accepted. Sweeter, more chaste, more filled with caring, Will’s kiss brought her a level of joy she’d never known. All the world faded away leaving Will and the power of his affection, his touch, his kiss. Every moment of her life seemed to have been designed to bring her to this single, perfect moment of bliss and wholeness. “Ahem.” Father cleared his throat conspicuously. Will pulled away all too quickly. A tiny sound of distress caught in Holly’s throat. It was over too soon. But oh, what a glorious kiss!

All That Makes Life Bright by Josi S. Kilpack, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

When Harriet Beecher marries Calvin Stowe on January 6, 1836, she is sure her future will be filled romance, eventually a family, and continued opportunities to develop as a writer. Her husband Calvin is completely supportive and said she must be a literary woman. Harriet's sister, Catharine, worries she will lose her identity in marriage, but she is determined to preserve her independent spirit. Deeply religious, she strongly believes God has called her to fulfill the roles of wife and writer and will help her accomplish everything she was born to do.

Two months after her wedding Harriet discovers she is pregnant just as Calvin prepares to leave for a European business trip. Alone, Harriet is overwhelmed-being a wife has been harder than she thought and being an expectant mother feels like living another woman's life. Knowing that part of Calvin still cherishes the memory of his first wife, Harriet begins to question her place in her husband's heart and yearns for his return; his letters are no substitute for having him home. When Calvin returns, however, nothing seems to have turned out as planned.

Struggling to balance the demands of motherhood with her passion for writing and her desire to be a part of the social change in Ohio, Harriet works to build a life with her beloved Calvin despite differing temperaments and expectations.

Can their love endure, especially after "I do"? Can she recapture the first blush of new love and find the true beauty in her marriage?

My Review:

Kilpack has always been a master storyteller in my proverbial book. All That Makes Life Bright is a continuance of her writing skills at their best. All That Makes Life Bright is the love story of Harriet Beecher Stowe and it is untraditional in many ways, which is probably what makes it so good. Typical love stories start with the couple meeting and the ensuing courtship and then ends with their marriage. This love story starts with the marriage and you get to know the couple after the wedding. Let's be honest, marriage is hard and people are very different from each other. Kilpack does a great job of showcasing the differences, the struggles and the love that are all shared within a marriage and family. If you want a story of substance and a story that is based on a historical figure, you will definitely enjoy All That Makes Life Bright.
