Perfectly Summer by Robin Daniels, Book Spotlight & Giveaway!!!

Book Summary:

Summer vacation is Levi London’s favorite time of the year. Each summer, he and his brothers are shipped off to Florida to stay with their grandparents. For ten weeks everything is perfect. He has freedom, fun, and Summer West—the cute and spunky girl across the street—for whom he’s planned to confess his giant crush. Right before the London boys are scheduled to leave, a scandalous family situation causes their mom to accompany them on vacation. Not only does Levi’s fun quotient promise to take a nose dive, but all the drama has him feeling less than his normal happy self. Summer decides that Levi needs a distraction, in the form of a prank war. But he gets more than he bargains for when his older brother Lucas is both better at pranking and determined to date Summer too. Levi is a peacekeeper, but he isn’t sure he can mediate his family’s struggles or strike the right balance between mischief and romance. Especially when Lucas keeps reminding him that all is fair in love and war.

Book Excerpt:

“So, your birthday is coming up soon. The big 1-6. We need to do something epic. I’m thinking a huge party…” I trailed off, knowing she’d shoot me down. There’s only one thing she’s ever wanted to do for her sixteenth birthday. That was to go on her first date.
Summer’s parents only had one formal rule—that I knew of, at least. No dating until you’re sixteen. I was surprised the first time I heard it, because her parents never seemed to care that I was always in her bedroom. I mean, we didn’t shut the door or do anything dodgy, but still. Hunter broke that rule all the time, but Summer had stayed obedient. She’d yet to go on an official date. I think the reason she didn’t push it the way Hunter did was because she was scared and a little naïve. But, regardless of the reason, the waiting had built up a lot of anticipation for her sixteenth birthday.
“You know me better than that by now.” Summer smiled. “I don’t want a party.”
I winked at her. “I know you don’t. The real question is, who do you want to take you on your very first date?” I tried to play it off like I didn’t care, but I already knew the answer. “Let me guess, you want me to pull some strings so my dopey older brother will ask you out?”
“Don’t be ridiculous, that’s never going to happen.” She waved me off, then got quiet, like she was nervous. Summer looked down at the stuffed animal she was holding. “Actually, I was hoping you’d take me on my first date.”
“Me?” I was beyond surprised.
Summer grinned and said, “Yes, you. Who else would I want to take me?”
Something exploded in my chest, and my body got warm and tingly. I’d been out on plenty of dates, kissed my share of girls, too. But the thought of doing either of those things with Summer made my emotions do a happy dance. She wanted me to take her on her first date. Maybe by default because she didn’t think Lucas was an option, but I’d take it. This would be the perfect opportunity to show her why Lucas sucked and I should be the man of her dreams.
“I’d be honored,” I replied coolly, trying to hide how giddy I was. I didn’t want to look like a desperate chump. “Do you have anything specific that you want to do?”
“Nope. I trust you to make it amazing and unforgettable.”
“Geez, no pressure or anything.”
Summer laughed. “Of course not. No pressure at all. I’ve only got a full page reserved for the event in my scrapbook.”
“Do you really?”
“What do you think?” she countered, but I couldn’t tell if she was being serious or not. Forget one page. Honestly, I could see her making a whole “first date scrapbook”.
“I’m invoking my right to plead the Fifth Amendment on this matter.”
“I think you’re smarter than Lucas gives you credit for,” she replied.

The Gentleman's Deception by Karen Tuft, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Renowned actress Ruby Chadwick, The Darling of Drury Lane, has long planned and prepared for her final performance. With exceptional beauty comes the unwanted attention of men, and after years of fending off odious suitors, Ruby is ready to leave it all behind in favor of a quiet life. The first step is to reclaim a piece of her past: her true identity as Lavinia Fernley. But leaving town unnoticed proves impossible, and in one desperate moment, she embarks on the greatest act of her life when she throws herself into the arms of a stranger to avoid recognition.

Lucas Jennings is shocked to find the stunning redhead in his arms, but something moves him to play along with her ruse when she calls him her husband. This charade marks the start of an unpredictable journey as he escorts the lovely Lavinia and her traveling companions to Primrose Farm, far from the glaring lights of London. Soon, the tables are turned when Lucas introduces Lavinia to his family—as his fiancée. Before long, their mutual deception begins to feel all too real. But when the truth of her past is revealed, will Lavinia’s dream of a happy ending slip through her fingers?

My Review:

How do I love this book? Let me count the ways! Ruby Chadwick is an amazing and highly sought after actress and her character in the book is bold and brave, and makes you want to get to know her better. Then we have the dashing and handsome Lucas Jennings, he is so loyal and honorable, who wouldn't swoon just at the sight of him? *sigh* The pace of the story is perfect, not too fast and not too slow. I found myself thinking about the story when I was working and couldn't pick it up to read it! Honestly this is one of the most unique storylines I have read for a regency novel, I truly enjoyed every step of the journey!

Christmas Secrets by Donna Hatch, Book Review

Book Summary:

Holly has two Christmas wishes this year; finally earn her mother's approval by gaining the notice of a handsome earl with an impeccable reputation, and learn the identity of the stranger who gave her a heart-shattering kiss...even if that stranger is the resident Christmas ghost.

My Review:

This Christmas regency novel will pull you in and keep you reading until the very last page! I found myself not wanting to stop reading! Immediately Hatch had my interest with the "ghost" encounter! Holly and Mr. Berry were characters that became friends and I was rooting for them both (well Mr. Berry had to earn it, he was a little rakish at first!). Holly became like a sister to me, I wanted her to stand up to her mother and be firm and strong! Hatch has a way of writing a story you get lost in and never want to find your way out! I love this sweet Christmas romance and you will too! It is just the perfect read for a cold winter's night and this Christmas season!

The Hunter's Son by Gregg Luke, LDS Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

For as long as Jarem can remember, the war between the Nephites and Lamanites has raged on. But for the young Nephite, there is security in the knowledge that the ruthless Lamanite warriors would never dare cross the border into his village—until the unthinkable happens. A Lamanite raiding party defies boundaries, destroying the village and killing Jarem's family. Enslaved to his enemies, Jarem must rely on his faith in God as he endures unimaginable hardships at the hands of the Lamanites—including being cruelly separated from the woman he loves.

But even amid trials, there is goodness to be found. When Chemish, Master Healer of the Lamanites, takes ownership of Jarem, the young man discovers unexpected kindness. Jarem becomes the healer's apprentice, and soon Chemish finds his soul stirred by the Christian faith of his student. But even as the bond between the two unlikely friends grows, the hatred of the Lamanites spreads. It is no longer enough for them to own the Nephites—they want to exterminate every one of them, and even personal slaves are no longer safe. Now, Jarem's only hope of survival is a dangerous escape that will take him through the heart of Lamanite land . . .

My Review:

This book really grabbed me from the beginning, right off it was tense and suspenseful. Luke does an amazing job of grabbing the reader's attention and keeping it. It is rare that a story grabs you and just keeps you reading, but this one really does it. I felt like I was there with Jarem and Chemish. I really felt Jarem's pain and anguish, his conflicting feelings towards the man who saved him yet was still a part of the people who killed his family and destroyed his home. Any fan of Book of Mormon fiction will enjoy this book!

Love and Loss at Whitmore Manor by Anita Stansfield, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

For nearly three years, British Officer Tristan Whitmore fought bravely for King and Crown in America. But his loyalty came at a price, and after slowly recovering from battlefield injuries, it is finally time to return to his beloved England and his wife, Muriel. But there is to be no tender reunion at Whitmore Manor—instead, Tristan is stunned to learn of his wife’s deceit in his absence and her unexpected death. And to add to the shocking blow, this devastating news is delivered by the last woman Tristan ever hoped to see again.

Olivia Halstead lost everything after the death of her father but found refuge with her cousin Muriel while Muriel’s husband was at war. Now, with the loss of her cousin, Olivia feels she has trespassed too long on the hospitality of the family. But before she can depart, Muriel’s husband returns, and Olivia’s own thorny history with the man comes rushing in: years ago, theirs was a tender courtship—followed too soon by a bitter parting of ways.

Now two people divided by past betrayal find an unforeseen chance for reconciliation. But when Tristan and Olivia find themselves on opposite sides of a revolution, will their clashing allegiances tear them apart forever?

My Review:

I have been a longtime fan of Stansfield and her writing, I have been a reader of her for years. I was very excited to read this new regency release from her and dove in head first. I wanted so badly to love this book like I have loved her others. I have to be straight forward though, this book was hard for me to get through.  It just didn't grab me and keep me inside the story. Maybe I just had a bad story reading day, who knows? I remain a fan of Stansfield and her work, this was just not my favorite from her.

The Darkest Summer by Rebecca J. Greenwood, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Lady Cora Winfield's life has always gone according to plan--her mother's plan. That's why Cora is so fascinated when she meets the dark Duke of Blackdale. Knowing his dangerous reputation, Cora's mother flatly forbids the match, and the duke decides to take matters into his own hands. Kidnapped and facing a scandal, Lady Cora must now decide whether love will be her downfall or the beginning of a new plan, one she never dreamed possible.

Set in the stormy summer of 1816, this Regency romance is a retelling of the myth of Hades and Persephone.

My Review:

Well this is no ordinary regency novel! Don't be put off by the title, I first thought that maybe this would be a dark story, but the title really alludes to the unusual weather in England during the book. Lady Cora is a completely unique character who loves all things plants and gardens. She doesn't really care for balls and parties but her mother makes her attend. She would rather be out tending to her flowers than entertaining an entourage of suitors! And the dark Duke is a quiet and brooding man. He has seen the horrors of war and he usually avoids the social scene...until he sees Lady Cora! And he knows he must meet her! From there the story simply flies on wings...I could not read quickly enough! I was rooting for the Duke and Cora to fall madly in love and marry! But love is never quite that simple! The journey that Greenwood takes you on is like no other I have read before. I kept thinking that no one could encounter so many obstacles and that the carriage ride would never end. Really, would it ever end? This is a great clean regency romance novel with twists and turns that any reader will enjoy!

For Castle and Crown by Sian Ann Bessey, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

After years spent fighting alongside King Richard in the crusades, Lord Edmund of Hawksford is finally returning to his ancestral home. But far from a joyful reunion, what awaits him is devastation. His elder brother is dead, killed in a tragic fire at Hawksford Castle—and the title of duke now falls to Edmund.

When he strives to rebuild the fire-scarred castle, Edmund learns that his was not the only life the fire shattered: his childhood friend Lady Phillipa survived the flames that took Edmund’s brother, but badly burned, she has hidden herself away from those she loves. Yet as the pair renews their acquaintance, they find that their affection runs deep—perhaps even deeper than they’d ever realized.

As Edmund and Pippa begin to question whether the fire was truly an accident, they must discover the truth of the past before they can plan for their future. While coming perilously close to the answers they seek, Edmund and Pippa find themselves at the mercy of a dangerous foe who will stop at nothing to lay claim on Hawksford—and he will destroy any who stand in his way.

My Review:

This is going down in history as one of my all time favorite medieval romances!  There was something magnetic about this story, it slowly but steadily pulled me in until I could not find my way out again. I was wrapped up inside of Lord Edmund and Lady Phillipa (Pippa's) world. I loved the history that was a part of the story as well as the rich culture and countryside that I got to experience alongside Edmund and Pippa. There was mystery, romance, an evil villain that needed to be found out and stopped. Whispered rumors and threats, uprisings and a romance that may not be possible...just all of the things that made for a fantastic story! I loved this book and I hope to read many more from Bessey!

Lies Jane Austen Told Me by Julie Wright, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

Ever since Emma read Pride and Prejudice, she's been in love with Mr. Darcy and has regarded Jane Austen as the expert on all things romantic. So naturally when Emma falls for Blake Hampton and he invites her home to meet his parents, she is positive an engagement is in her future. After all, Blake is a single man in possession of a good fortune, and thus must be in want of a wife.

But when it turns out that what Blake actually wants is more of a hook-up than a honeymoon, Emma is hurt, betrayed, and furious. She throws herself deeper into her work as CMO of Kinetics, the fastest growing gym franchise in the nation. She loves her work, and she's good at it, which is why she bristles when her boss brings in a consultant to help her spearhead the new facilities on the East Coast. Her frustration turns to shock when that consultant turns out to be Blake's younger brother, Lucas.

Emma is determined not to fall for Lucas, but as she gets to know him, she realizes that Lucas is nothing like his brother. He is kind and attentive and spends his time and money caring for the less fortunate.

What she can't understand is why Lucas continues to try to push her back into Blake's arms when he so clearly has fallen as hard for her as she has fallen for him. It isn't until Lucas reveals to Emma that he was adopted into the Hampton family that she begins to understand his loyalty to Blake as well as his devotion to the child April-she is Lucas's biological niece.

Emma opens up to Lucas about the feelings of abandonment she has harbored ever since she was a child and her mother left the family. As she helps Lucas deal with his past demons, she is able to exorcise some of her own.

Realizing that her love life is as complicated as anything Jane Austen could have dreamed up, Emma must find a way to let Blake know that it's time for him to let her go and to let Lucas know it's time for him to love her back.

My Review:

I LOVE all things Austen, so I was beyond excited to get my hands on a copy of this book! I had no idea what to expect, I mean, the title alone could send an Austen fan into a fit of vapors! However, Wright was definitely up to tackling Austen, because this contemporary novel was amazing! Emma was a complete Austenesque character from her name right on down to her love life. And the Hampton brothers!  Both were successful and handsome but come on folks, no one could hold a candle to Lucas in my mind! This twisted love story is delightful and I found myself wishing for more time so I could just sit and read it to the very end! From Emma's best friend Silvia, to dreamy hot Lucas and even his mom Caroline, and cute little April...each and every character played an important part in this wonderful book! I believe any fan of Austen's will be a sure fan of Lies Jane Austen Told Me!

Christmas Secrets by Donna Hatch, Book Blitz and Giveaway!!!

Book Release Celebration for Christmas Secrets By Donna Hatch
Donna Hatch is bringing readers some sweet romance this holiday season...

Christmas Secrets by Donna Hatch
Paperback & ebook, 260 Pages November 9th 2017 by Mirror Lake Press LL

A stolen Christmas kiss leaves them bewildered and breathless. A charming rogue-turned-vicar, Will wants to prove that he left his rakish days behind him, but an accidental kiss changes all his plans. His secret could bring them together...or divide them forever.
Holly has two Christmas wishes this year; finally earn her mother's approval by gaining the notice of a handsome earl, and learn the identity of the stranger who gave her a heart-shattering kiss...even if that stranger is the resident Christmas ghost.

Exclusive Excerpt

This scene takes place when everyone on Christmas Day takes a turn kissing their spouse or sweetheart underneath the mistletoe ball. Now the group turn to Will and Holly, who have only known each other a few days, and start goading them into sharing a mistletoe kiss... “Come now, don’t be shy,” her sister called. “It’s tradition.” The others called out encouragements. Apology edged into Will’s uncertain expression. “Do you mind?” Holly’s palms grew sweaty inside her gloves, and her smile probably came out wobbly. “Who are we to go against tradition?” Did she sound desperate in her desire to kiss him? Will held out a hand. She placed hers in it and walked at his side to the kissing ball. They stood, hand in hand, facing each other. His neck cloth shifted as he swallowed. He leaned in. Her heart stumbled and her knees shook. She closed her eyes. Aching, she lifted her face. His cinnamon-spiced breath warmed her mouth. He kissed her cheek. Stunned, she opened her eyes. The watching guests groaned and some chuckled. “No, no, that won’t do at all,” Joseph’s voice rang out. “Give her a proper kiss.” Will froze. That intensity she occasionally saw in him returned. “Holly.” He swallowed again but instead of nervousness, a hunger that sent a flurry of shivers through her overtook his expression. “May I?” She nodded. It didn’t matter if he saw how much she wanted this, wanted him. Let him know. Let the whole world know. He touched her chin, lifted it, and leaned in. Again, she closed her eyes. This time his lips touched hers, pliant and unbelievably gentle. Heat exploded at the contact and shot through her all the way down to her tingling toes. Different from her mystery kiss, this one sang of affection and respect and a deep longing to be accepted. Sweeter, more chaste, more filled with caring, Will’s kiss brought her a level of joy she’d never known. All the world faded away leaving Will and the power of his affection, his touch, his kiss. Every moment of her life seemed to have been designed to bring her to this single, perfect moment of bliss and wholeness. “Ahem.” Father cleared his throat conspicuously. Will pulled away all too quickly. A tiny sound of distress caught in Holly’s throat. It was over too soon. But oh, what a glorious kiss!

All That Makes Life Bright by Josi S. Kilpack, Blog Tour

Book Summary:

When Harriet Beecher marries Calvin Stowe on January 6, 1836, she is sure her future will be filled romance, eventually a family, and continued opportunities to develop as a writer. Her husband Calvin is completely supportive and said she must be a literary woman. Harriet's sister, Catharine, worries she will lose her identity in marriage, but she is determined to preserve her independent spirit. Deeply religious, she strongly believes God has called her to fulfill the roles of wife and writer and will help her accomplish everything she was born to do.

Two months after her wedding Harriet discovers she is pregnant just as Calvin prepares to leave for a European business trip. Alone, Harriet is overwhelmed-being a wife has been harder than she thought and being an expectant mother feels like living another woman's life. Knowing that part of Calvin still cherishes the memory of his first wife, Harriet begins to question her place in her husband's heart and yearns for his return; his letters are no substitute for having him home. When Calvin returns, however, nothing seems to have turned out as planned.

Struggling to balance the demands of motherhood with her passion for writing and her desire to be a part of the social change in Ohio, Harriet works to build a life with her beloved Calvin despite differing temperaments and expectations.

Can their love endure, especially after "I do"? Can she recapture the first blush of new love and find the true beauty in her marriage?

My Review:

Kilpack has always been a master storyteller in my proverbial book. All That Makes Life Bright is a continuance of her writing skills at their best. All That Makes Life Bright is the love story of Harriet Beecher Stowe and it is untraditional in many ways, which is probably what makes it so good. Typical love stories start with the couple meeting and the ensuing courtship and then ends with their marriage. This love story starts with the marriage and you get to know the couple after the wedding. Let's be honest, marriage is hard and people are very different from each other. Kilpack does a great job of showcasing the differences, the struggles and the love that are all shared within a marriage and family. If you want a story of substance and a story that is based on a historical figure, you will definitely enjoy All That Makes Life Bright.

Safe House by Traci Hunter Abramson, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

The guardians, the shadowy heroes of the top-secret program designed to protect members of the most elite government organizations, are being hunted down one by one. There is a single explanation: a traitor must be embedded somewhere in their midst. But if they themselves are the target, who will protect them?

CIA operative Renee Niezen has heard tales of the guardians, though she's never really believed in their existence—until she is approached by Charlotte, an old friend who desperately needs her help to stop the systematic destruction of the guardian program. Renee accepts the plea for assistance, but not everyone is thrilled to have her on the team. Kade—one of the last guardians standing—is unimpressed with Renee's qualifications and turns instead to the legendary Saint Squad for help. But when Renee is caught in the crosshairs, Kade must set aside his antagonism for the woman in order to protect her. Their grudging alliance soon develops into much more—but before the pair can examine their feelings, their investigation takes a dramatic twist. With lives on the line, Renee and Kade must use their spy training at every turn as they draw dangerously close to the shocking truth.

My Review:

Well Abramson certainly did not disappoint me this go around! I love the books she has written about the Saint Squad, and Safe House is no exception. Immediately the reader is drawn into the action and suspense of the story, and it just doesn't let up! I felt myself tensing up, searching for clues within the book that maybe I was missing, and wondering to myself who was behind all of this madness! This book blends my favorite old characters of the Saint Squad with new characters I came to love as much as the old ones. Abramson has an uncanny ability to write intense action/suspense novels that keep me turning pages like a madwoman in order to solve all of the mysteries. If you love a good book with characters that become as real as your own friends, with action and suspense like your favorite movie, then I highly recommend Safe House!

For Love or Honor by Sarah M. Eden, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Summary:

From the moment they met, Marjie’s heart has belonged to handsome Captain Stanley Jonquil, younger brother of the Earl of Lampton. But six long months ago, when Stanley’s sense of honor required that he do as he had sworn and return to the Continent to fight in defense of King and country, neither Stanley nor Marjie could have dreamed what the cost of his service would be. It has been ages since Stanley last wrote, and Marjie and the Jonquil family are plagued by his unknown fate—until the day he unexpectedly reappears. Marjie’s joy, however, is quickly shadowed by confusion—the aloof, battle-worn soldier before her is not the man he once was. In the wake of Stanley’s blatant disinterest in renewing their acquaintance, Marjie’s devastation turns to determination as she vows to help him find peace. But his scars run far deeper than anyone realizes. Despite his feelings for her, Stanley believes Marjie deserves a man whose hands are not stained with the violence of battlefields and whose mind and heart are not haunted by the horrors he has seen. Honor requires Stanley to return once more to the life he has grown to despise, one he knows will destroy him in the end, even as his heart beckons him to stay with Marjie, the only woman he could ever love, and the promise, at last, of redemption.

My Review:

Eden does a superb job in writing a beautiful yet heartbreaking love story. I love the Jonquil brothers, their stories thus far have been ones I have been able to get totally lost in. Stanley's story is no exception. I found myself hurting and broken for Stanley and all he had endured and heartbroken for Marjie and all she had suffered along the way. An aching and beautiful story of a love that seems impossible, a life that seems to have only one direction it can go, For Love or Honor kept me enthralled until the very end. The good, the ugly, the pain and the heartache...all of it laid bare to be seen, I applaud Eden and her ability to wrap the reader up inside a story that it becomes real.

Wish Me Love by Michele Ashman Bell, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Charlotte Wells does not date. After surviving a broken engagement, she’s taken a leave of absence from the social scene. So when her best friend and coworker, Jack, challenges her to get back in the game, she’s not so sure she’s ready to play. But ultimately, curiosity gets the best of her, and Charlotte accepts the daunting challenge: she will attempt to have fifty first dates in her effort to find “the one.” Unfortunately, she quickly realizes that the dating pool mostly holds clown fish as she goes on one lousy outing after another. Without a good man in sight as summer ends, Charlotte cuts her losses and sets her sights on a fun-filled trip to her cousin’s destination wedding in Brazil.
Brazil is a land of beautiful sights and delicious offerings—including Max, the charming brother of her cousin’s new husband. Max has all the makings of a Prince Charming in soccer cleats, and Charlotte’s happily ever after seems to be within reach. But love is a funny thing, and soon Charlotte finds herself wondering: could it be that her true love has been right in front of her all along?

My Review:
I cannot lie, I was super excited when I saw that Michele Ashman Bell had a new release coming out! She has been a favorite author of mine for years and I may or may not have squealed like a schoolgirl at the chance to read and review her newest book! I loved Wish Me Love! Charlotte and Jack were larger than life, fun characters that I wanted to be friends with! I could completely relate to how they turned comments into a chance to break out in song! They were just so much fun! The more I read the more I wished that they could be together instead of just best friends! They supported each other and they just got each other!
When Jack suggested that Charlotte go on fifty first dates I was like WHOA there Nelly! But she was brave and decided to tackle it head on and oh my word, those guys and those dates! I mean, where do these people come from?!? I think the majority of women could relate to Charlotte in that she did not see herself as beautiful or special, yet she was. Sometimes it takes time to realize that we are awesome just the way that we are. I really connected with that part of the book and it is a nod to Bell that she can write a fiction novel that can make you connect and reflect on your own life. Mind Games by Stephanie Black, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

Psychologist Natalie Marsh’s dream is now reality: her mental health services clinic has opened and is housed in an elegant, newly renovated nineteenth-century building. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with the clinic’s presence, including Heather Osbourne, a troubled young woman who wholly objects to the occupation of the building. Heather has spent years wandering the halls of the abandoned structure, convinced she’s communing with her ancestor’s ghost. When Natalie thwarts Heather’s attempt to leap from a window, the shaken psychologist soon realizes Heather’s failed jump is merely one piece of a disturbing puzzle. Greed and deceit are weaving a web around Natalie, and someone will stop at nothing—not even murder—to get what they want. Stretched to her breaking point, Natalie struggles to learn the truth, but only one thing is clear: nothing is as it seems.

My Review:

I have been a huge Stephanie Black fan for awhile now, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review her newest release, Mind Games! So truth, it took time to get into this book. I usually like my books to take off from the first chapter and keep the pace going so I stay interested. This book took more time than that and time to figure out who was who and what they were doing in the story. Once you get all of that straightened out then you are golden and the pace picks up and keeps you on the edge until the very end! Black has a mind for the suspenseful thrillers so watch yourself and don't read at night! Or alone!

Perfectly You by Robin Daniels, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Perfectly You by Robin Daniels

Ivy Nixon is the student body Vice President at Franklin High School. Each year, the school holds a date auction to raise funds for the senior class graduation party, and this year, Ivy’s in charge. Planning the event is a huge task and Ivy is determined to prove she can get the job done right. Unfortunately, she’s still one participant short and her deadline is looming. Andy Walker, her cute but socially reclusive art class table mate, is her last resort. He may not be popular, but he’s funny, talented, and full of surprises. With a makeover and some major social marketing, Ivy is sure he could fetch a decent price at the auction. Andy reluctantly agrees to help, but the more time Ivy spends with him, the more her feelings shift from professional to romantic in nature. To top it off, she’s done her marketing so well, that other girls are starting to notice Andy too. Come auction time, will Ivy be able to let him go to the highest bidder? Or will she find a way to keep him for herself… Content Description: This is a stand-alone YA contemporary romance with companion novels set at the same high school. It contains minor language, innuendo, and crude humor, some steamy kissing, a party scene where underage drinking is taking place, and a brief but tasteful conversation about sex. The author has attempted to write characters who make good choices in questionable situations, in effort to keep the content appropriate for teens. This book contains no sex, written or implied, and no explicit language. Recommended for ages 14 and up

 EXCERPT:

"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you." I lunged forward in an exaggerated show of gratitude and threw my arms around his waist, embracing him tightly. He flinched and tensed up for a moment. I'd caught him off guard. Eventually he relaxed and put one arm around me, awkwardly patting my back in some semblance of a hug. For a moment, I forgot what I was doing and leaned into him. Wow, he smelled unbelievably good. Like soap and dryer sheets and something a little sharper that I couldn't identify. I needed to ask him what cologne he wore, because it was incredible. I could smell him all day. Not to mention that his chest was a lot firmer than one would guess, since he hides it under baggy button-down shirts all the time. Andy cleared his throat and I pulled away. He looked embarrassed again. He really needed to get over that, and I was going to help him, starting right now. "Sorry." I grinned. "You smell amazing. Your cologne is yummy enough to eat. I could sit here and sniff you for the rest of the class." He choked on his spit and quickly put his fist over his mouth to stifle his laughter. "Please don't." He was trying to sound horrified, but his face gave him away. He appreciated the compliment. "Ok." I threw my hands up in surrender. "But fair warning...if I'm having a bad day, I may lean over and smell your neck to induce a calming effect. When that happens, don't punch me." Andy shook his head, bewildered by the turn our conversation had taken. "I'll try not to punch you, if you decide to randomly press your face against my neck." "When you say it like that, I sound like a psycho stalker." "Psycho and stalker are your words, not mine. But, if the shoe fits..." He trailed off, and I smacked him on the arm. "Ouch!" Andy rubbed the place I'd just hit. "I'm only kidding. I don't think you're a psycho stalker. I've never seen any indication that you're a stalker. You're more likely a plain old psycho." He was grinning nice and big now, and I couldn't help but grin back.

My Review:

Perfectly You by Daniels is a breath of fresh air for the YA genre! I loved Ivy and her assertive and well meaning helpful ways. And then there was Andy, unassuming, low-key and a down to earth guy! The date auction was such a fun and interesting aspect of the book, I enjoyed Ivy looking for just the right guy and settling on Andy. Watching their friendship grow and develop was natural. I was rooting for them to see that there was more there than friendship! A wonderful and easy, Perfectly You was just the right pick me up from a long work week!

Author Robin Daniels

Robin Daniels is a wife, mother of five and avid consumer of books. She loves reading SO much that she was actually grounded from it as a twelve year old. No Joking! Her mom caught her reading when she was supposed to be cleaning, which was a common occurrence. At that point mom took the books and instructed her to go watch TV or play outside like a normal kid. Robin is a sucker for home design shows and magazines, watches way too much Netflix and has a very codependent relationship with with a certain diet soda who’s brand shall not be named. (Though anyone with a similar problem could probably guess which one.)

Miss Leslie's Secret by Jennifer Moore, Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Book Summary:

Decorated war hero Conall Stewart has spent ten years envisioning his return to his beloved Scottish Highlands. But now, with the days of battle finally behind him, it seems that his dreams of home have been in vain: the land of his youth lies in ruins, and his family is gone. Though he will never stop searching for his kin, Conall knows he must begin again. But when he takes on a rented farm in a nearby town, he finds far more than the fresh start he was looking for . . . After catching a mischievous local lad stealing, Conall returns young Jamie to his mother, Aileen Leslie—and finds the woman’s coddling of the child maddening. What Conall does not realize is that Aileen hides a frightening secret: her devoted protection of Jamie is all that shelters them from discovery by a dangerous man from their past. Drawn together by circumstance, Conall soon develops a fatherly relationship with Jamie—as well as romantic feelings for Aileen. But even as the couple accepts their growing affection for one another, time runs out for Aileen and her son: after years of hiding, they have been found. Conall lost his family once—he will do all in his power not to let history repeat itself . . ..

My Review:

So I will openly admit that it personally took me a little longer than normal to get into this story. But once I was in, man, I could not put it down! Conall was such a strong, handsome and just good man. He cared about others and he was a giver by nature. And his Scottish accent could make a girl swoon! Aileen was a proud, stubborn and independent woman, she felt like she didn't need help from anyone at all! The two of them together were quite the pair and I wondered if they would ever see eye-to-eye. Aileen's son Jamie, stole a piece of my heart, and his character showed how children are good and aim to please. The climax of the story happened late, but it was action-packed and heart wrenching! It kept me up late because I had to finish it and find out if Conall would be able to save his new found family! Overall, a wonderful read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a sweet Scottish romance!

Double Eagle Double Cross by M.R. Durbin, Blog Tour & Giveaway

Book Summary:

After an unexpectedly thrilling summer with his grandfather, Oregon State student Charley Sawyer is ready to catch his breath at his late parents' Oregon beach home. Hoping for some rest and relaxation, Charley is met instead by devastation: the house has been ransacked. In his inventory of the damage, Charley stumbles across the item the trespasser must have been after, the only thing that seems out of place: a mysterious key. And when he learns what it unlocks, Charley is drawn into yet another adventure with a ragtag group more than willing to help.

Mac Bowman, the brainy and beautiful anthropology student who joined Charley in his summer escapade, is thrilled when she is presented with the opportunity to conduct research in Oregon. Maybe a little time together will allow the pair to explore their feelings for one another. But when she arrives, she is disturbed by what she finds: Charley has disappeared without a trace.
As Charley and Mac each work to unravel their mysteries, their searches collide dramatically. Only one thing is clear: the moment he found the key, Charley unwittingly opened the door to a long-held secret—one that could cost him his life. . . .

My Review:

So the book starts out with some serious action but it kind of jumps around a lot. It was pretty hard for me to follow the first few chapters while I tried to get a grasp on who was now talking and who they were and how they factored into the story. Honestly it was pretty confusing for me as a reader. Perhaps if there had been some sort of heading at the beginning of each chapter letting the reader know who was speaking, it may have made more sense to me and been easier for me to delve into the story. If you can get past those first few chapters then you will enjoy this mystery novel full of secrets!

Reluctant Reunion by Ruth J. Hartman, Book Review

Book Summary:

Kennedy Cooper tries everything to stay away from her father’s alpaca farm. Being an actress in New York seems to do the trick. Until it doesn’t. When she fails to get enough acting parts, loses her part-time job, and breaks up with her boyfriend, she has no choice but to return. Seeing her father again is tough, but having to meet his new love interest reminds Kennedy why she’d vowed never to go home.

My Review:

I really enjoyed Kennedy's story! It was nice to see her go from the busy city of New York back to her roots on her father's alpaca farm. What a stark contrast and two very different lives! I really felt like the book came full circle and I love stories like that! This short book really brought a lot of emotion and reflection on what is most important in life. Since I like to read clean/sweet romance, I need to mention there is a short open door sex scene.
